PSU Signing Day 2017
Less than a month after losing to USC on a last second, game-winning field goal in the Rose Bowl, Penn State is already looking towards next season as National Signing Day came on February 1st.
With three of the top 10 recruits in the state according to 247sports, the Nittany Lions’ recent success has translated into a strong recruiting class, the 14th ranked recruiting class in the nation by Sports Illustrated.
Headlining the 2017 class is Lamont Wade, a four star CB out of Clairton high school. Wade, the highest ranked defensive player in the state by 247sports, dominated in his senior season, with four interceptions returned for touchdowns.
Following Wade are two more top 10 Pennsylvania recruits that will be playing in Happy Valley in the future.
C.J. Thorpe, a 6-3, 318 lb guard out of Central Catholic will look to bring stability to an offensive line that was shaky at points in Penn State’s championship season. McSorley was sacked 23 times last year, a number the Nittany Lions will surely be looking to decrease in his junior season.
With three more signees in the top 30, Penn State continues to be the team to beat when it comes to recruiting homegrown, Pennsylvania players. With the recent success of the program, coming off a Big 10 championship, and a Rose Bowl appearance, Happy Valley is the place to be for the top high school players in the state.
