Father Judge comes up short against the Ryan Raiders
A highly anticipated Northeast Philadelphia 2017 match-up is long over for one team. Archbishop Ryan beat Father Judge High School 68 to 58 on Friday, February 17th to advance to the Catholic League Semifinals.
The ten point victory was not much different from the lead the Raiders were able to keep nearly all game long. Ryan’s home court advantage, and filled to capacity gymnasium, left no chance for Father Judge to take a solid lead all game.
However, Father Judge made no mistakes by allowing Marc Rodriguez plenty of time. The senior, 6’ 2”, Point Guard put away 32 points for the Crusaders, but it was not enough to stop the momentum Ryan’s three lead scorers delivered.
Over on the home side, Matiss Kulackovskis lent 25 points, and Izaiah Brockington
gave 14. Another notable game was played by West Chester commit, Fred Taylor who gained 11 points, 7 rebounds and 7 blocks for the Raiders.
The Red and Black led by Head Coach, Joe Zeglinski, will head down to the Palestra next week to take the next step in making the championship vision a reality.
Other games that went around the Philadelphia Catholic League were Archbishop Wood defeating Bonner-Prendie 65-43. Across the city Neumann-Goretti beat Archbishop Carroll 73-55. The last, a Speedy Morris team, Saint Joseph’s Prep fell to Roman Catholic by a one-point game, 56-55.
The championship of the Catholic League will be decided before February comes to a close with two doubleheader nights. The Philadelphia Catholic League Semifinals on Wednesday, February 22nd at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
