Temple University's Liacouras Center hosted the PIAA Class 3A semifinal match between Neumann-Goretti and Delaware Valley Charter. Neumann-Goretti put together an astounding second half performance en route to a 76-47 win. The Saints will be headed to Hershey with the 3A state title on the line.
This was a rematch of the 3A District 12 Championship game. NG kept their perfect record against Del-Val Charter yesterday, this time in more dominant fashion. The first match the Saints won 65-58.
Early in the game was back and forth, momentum swung to both sides, and the first quarter ended in a 22-14 NG lead. The Saints would hold that lead for the rest of the game.
Kentucky commit and top-25 ranked senior in the nation, Quade Green, made sure his team kept the pressure on Del-Val all night. He paced his team with 17 points. Notable sophomore and 6-man Chris Ings added 14 points and some crafty passing, while putting the dagger in the coffin with 2 fast break dunks in the middle of the final frame. The 5’10” energizer is a marvel to watch and a true athlete that this team will have the pleasure of having for the next two seasons.
As for Del-Val Charter, junior Antuwan Butler scored his 1,000-career point in the game and led his team with 12 points. Other notable contributors included Nazir Thomas (11), Makhi Morris (10), and Dion Harris (10). For Del-Val the offensive attack from the Saints was too much to try to contain.
Up next for Neumann-Goretti is their chance to win their fourth PIAA 3A state title in a row, as the Saints will take on District 7’s Lincoln Park on Thursday night at the GIANT Center in Hershey.
The stage is set for March 23 where NG will face Bowling Green commit Renell Cummings and the Lincoln Park Leopards for the chance to send out their seniors with their fourth, and final state title, one each year they’ve been in school.
