The Culver Academy Eagles never trailed in the Inter-Ac Invitational Championship game and defeated the Haverford School Fords, 9-5, to win the tournament for the second straight season. As the outsiders in this tournament from Indiana, Culver won three straight games over three great Inter-Ac teams in Penn Charter, Episcopal Academy and The Haverford School. Austin Madronic led the way for Culver with four goals while Wheaton Jackoboice had a hat trick with three goals. For The Haverford School, Luke O’Grady was the only player with multiple goals, finishing with two.
Culver struck first on a fast break goal by Jackoboice in the opening minute, but O’Grady answered back two minutes later to even the score at 1-1. Madronic followed that with two straight goals to end the first quarter, including an amazing behind-the-head goal in front of the Haverford cage, giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead over the Fords heading into the 2nd quarter.
The Fords started out of the gate quickly in the 2nd with a quick goal by Adam Salvaggio to make the score 3-2. Culver answered back later in the quarter to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.
The Haverford School again started off well to start the 3rd quarter with two straight goals by O’Grady and the coach’s son, Johnny Nostrant, to even the game up at 4-4. But at the five-minute mark of the 3rd, the Fords turned it over and Madronic made them pay with a fast break goal to take a 5-4 lead. The Eagles of Culver never looked back from that point and ultimately went on for a comfortable 9-5 victory.
