Penn Charter dominates South Philly HS in Non-League Match-Up
PHILADELPHIA, PA -
With a perfect record of 5-0 and their league games starting up next weekend, the Penn Charter Quakers had one final non-league test on Friday night against a solid South Philadelphia Rams team from the Philadelphia Public League. The Quakers passed with flying colors, winning 35-6 down at 10th & Bigler at the South Philadelphia supersite.
Penn Charter junior running back Edward Saydee led the way with 60 rushing yards, 29 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Freshman Matthew Marshall, who plays on both sides of the ball, had an offensive rushing touchdown and a defensive fumble recovery touchdown. Senior quarterback Will Samuel was very efficient completing six of his seven pass attempts for 94 yards and a touchdown.
The Southern Rams, who drop to 3-3 on the season now, have one more Public League game on their schedule against Prep Charter on October 20th, with a bye week upcoming next weekend. The Rams have already solidified their spot in the Public League 6A playoffs with winning the Liberty division and locking themselves in as the #3 seed. They look to be on a collision course to battle the Northeast Vikings in the Public League 6A championship game in early November.
Penn Charter is undefeated at 6-0 but may have their toughest test of the season coming up with a battle on the road against the Malvern Prep Friars on Saturday October 14th. The Inter-Ac League is very strong this year from top to bottom and the Quakers have a chance to knock off the pre-season favorite Malvern Prep in their first league game of the year.
