Germantown Academy knocks off Haverford School, 28-14, to start Inter-Ac play
HAVERFORD, PA -
The Inter-Ac League, consisting of six private schools in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs, just kicked off their league schedule this past weekend. The Germantown Academy Patriots, who were a co-regular season champions of the league last year, got things started on the right foot with a 28-14 road victory at The Haverford School on Saturday afternoon.
Patriot quarterback Colton Niedzielski led his team's offense, not with his arm, but with his legs. The 6'5" senior rushed seven times for 72 yards - three of which went for touchdowns. His first two rushing touchdowns were from two yards and one yard out, respectively. But with just under three minutes remaining in the game, Niedzielski dashed from the Patriots' own 35-yard line for a thrilling 65-yard touchdown run.
Germantown Academy running back Trae Vance accounted for the other Patriot touchdown with a 10-yard dash past the goal line.
For the Haverford School, this continues a rough year for a normally solid Fords football program. With this loss to Germantown Academy to kick off their league schedule, the Fords now drop to 1-5 overall and have lost their last four games.
Haverford School quarterback Ben Gerber was involved in both touchdowns on the day - one through the air connecting with wide receiver Dan Whaley, and the other a rushing touchdown.
Both teams continue on with Inter-Ac League play on Saturday afternoon as The Haverford School hosts Penn Charter, while Germantown Academy travels to Chestnut Hill to take on SCH Academy. Penn Charter is coming off a 23-9 loss to Malvern Prep and SCH Academy also went down last weekend by a score of 21-7 at the hands of Episcopal Academy.
