Northeast blanks Royal Ontario Prep in rare International contest

With a rare mid-October off week in Public League play, the Northeast Vikings hosted Royal Ontario Prep, a school located North of the Border in Canada. The Vikings (6-2) came out with an easy 33-0 victory over the visitors from the North, but more importantly, this allowed the Northeast players to stay sharp and fresh heading into the Public League playoffs.

Once again, the Northeast Vikings ground game led the attack on offense, headed by senior Bryan Cobb and junior Marlon White. The Viking defense continued its solid play with shutting out the visitors and is now only giving up seven points per game this season. The defense was led by two seniors on the night - defensive back Carlos Davilis with three interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns, and linebacker Kyle Morasch with 14 tackles.

This was the second consecutive year that Northeast hosted Royal Ontario Prep, turning it into a nice little event for both schools. "We had an opening in our schedule last season and they called us after we posted on the Internet that we were looking for a game," stated Northeast head coach Phil Gormley. "They have international players and we thought it was a great opportunity for our kids."

Not only does Northeast and Royal Ontario Prep play a football game, the two teams also make the most out of their day with post-game activities. "After the game we have a barbeque, so the players from both teams can meet and talk," Gormley continued. In addition, some Northeast football Alums come down to their old stomping grounds for the game and the barbeque as well.

Northeast will conclude their regular season schedule with a home game on Friday night against the Frankford Pioneers. This will be the final tune-up before the Public League Playoffs, where the Vikings are locked in as the number-one seed in the 6A classification.
