King takes care of Overbrook, 36-8, in final matchup before playoffs

PHILADELPHIA, PA -

The Martin Luther King Cougars easily took care of the Overbrook Panthers, 36-8, on Saturday night in their final regular season matchup of the season. King junior quarterback Salim Dixon threw for 338 yards and four touchdowns in the victory, connecting on multiple occasions with fellow juniors, wide receivers Isaiah Allen and Qaadir Dixon.

The victory pushes the Cougars to a 6-3 record overall on the season and 4-2 in Public League Independence division play. King will take on the Lincoln Railsplitters in the first round of the Public League 6A Classification playoffs on Friday night at the Northwest Supersite in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. Lincoln, who finished the season 4-5 on the year, has one of the top running backs in the league with Sammy Karr, who set a Pub record with 418 rushing yards in one game early this year.

Overbrook, despite the loss which makes them 1-7 overall and 1-6 in Public League Independence division play, also makes the Public League playoffs at the 4A classification. They will battle Boys Latin Charter, who is 8-1 on the season, only losing to Olney in overtime way back on September 8th.

The full Philadelphia Public League playoff brackets will be released later this week on The Sports Fan Base Network.
