PHILADELPHIA, PA -
The first round matchups have been set and the Philadelphia Public League football playoff brackets have officially been released with Northeast, Simon Gratz and Imhotep Charter landing the number-one seeds in the 6A, 5A and 4A playoff brackets, respectively.
In the 6A classification, Northeast will receive a first round bye and face the lowest remaining seed out of the remaining semi-finalists next week. The 2-seed Central will host the 7-seed Kensington on Friday afternoon at their home field. Then Friday night features two good matchups with Martin Luther King vs. Abraham Lincoln at the Northwest Supersite and George Washington vs. South Philadelphia at the South Philly Supersite.
Simon Gratz sits atop the 5A classification and hosts Palumbo at their Supersite on Friday night. The remainder of the 5A matchups will take place on Saturday with Frankford hosting Fels at noon, Mastery North battling Mastbaum at the Northwest Supersite at 3:00 p.m. and Ben Franklin taking on Olney at the Gratz supersite in the evening at 6:30 p.m.
Like Northeast, Imhotep will receive a first round bye in the 4A classification and await the lowest remaining seed. Overbrook takes on the 8-1 Boys Latin Warriors on Friday night at the Gratz Supersite, while West Philadelphia hosts Roxborough that same night. Bartram takes on Dobbins at the South Philly Supersite on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
The lone 3A contest features Kipp DuBois and School of the Future doing battle on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Gratz Supersite to determine the Pub's 3A champion that will get sent to the D-1/D-12 combined playoff bracket.
Strawberry Mansion is the only 2A team in the Public League and will travel to Springfield High School in Montgomery County for a non-league tune-up before they move into the D-1/D-12 combination bracket next week.
