Emily McNesby eclipses 100 career goals for SCH Academy soccer

Senior forward Emily McNesby scored her 100th and 101st career goals as her Springside Chestnut Hill Academy Blue Devils defeated the Baldwin School, 3-1, in an Inter-Ac League girls soccer matchup on October 24, 2017.

"Emily scoring her 100th goal in a critical Inter-Ac game against Baldwin was huge," exclaimed SCH Academy girls soccer head coach Maria Kosmin. "Emily wasn't so wrapped up in hitting the 100-goal mark, but instead noted before the game, 'Coach, as a striker, it is my job to score.'"

And score she did as Emily accounted for two-thirds of her team's offensive output on the afternoon.

"When I scored my 100th goal, I felt complete," McNesby stated. "Every pulled muscle I played through, every hard tackle I went in for and every ball I fired into the back of the net had earned me something."

While Emily was excited, happy and a little relieved that the accomplishment had finally been hit, she knows that without her Blue Devil teammates, her milestone, and the season they are having, would not be possible.

"I would not have been able to accomplish what I had if it weren’t for my amazing teammates and coaches," McNesby continued. "We are a very close knit group of girls and they helped me accomplish something very few do. My senior year has been unforgettable and I’m really going to miss playing with such a talented group of girls."

Coach Kosmin agrees.

"Emily knows that while she puts the ball in the net, it's her teammates who do a lot of the dirty work to get to that point," Kosmin stated. "Every time she touches the ball she is double/triple teamed and has to work even harder to find the back of the net. Once she starts scoring, it doesn't stop. We always say, 'big players step up in big games.'"

"I am excited as a coach that I was able to share this moment with such a special player and an even better kid," Kosmin continued. "100 goals is not an easy task and the exciting part is she isn't close to being done."

The SCH Academy Blue Devils, now 13-2-1 after the win over Baldwin, are certainly not done. They've got two more regular season league home games against Episcopal Academy and Agnes Irwin. After that, it's onto the PAISAA playoffs. We'll see if McNesby and the Blue Devils can keep things rolling all the way to a PAISAA state championship.
