PHILADELPHIA, PA –
On Saturday, October 28th, 2017, the Bartram Braves rolled over the Dobbins Mustangs, 72-6, in a Philadelphia Public League 4A quarterfinal. Bartram and their high-powered offense, led by star quarterback Mahmud Dioubate, got started fast and early, as the Braves led the Mustangs 28-0 through only one quarter of play - and never looked back.
The Bartram Braves remain undefeated this year at 10-0 and have now outscored their opponents 466-65 on the season.
Next up for the Braves in the Public League 4A semi-finals are the West Philadelphia Speedboys. West Philly, who had a solid 7-4 season a couple years ago, found themselves this season in the toughest Public League division, the Independence division. All year they've played against teams like Imhotep, Northeast and Gratz - all number one seeds in each Public League classification bracket.
This year, the Speedboys finished 0-8 in the regular season and earned a playoff spot as a result of being in a higher division. They achieved their first win of the season in the Public League 4A quarterfinals with a 6-0 victory over Roxborough this past Friday night.
Bartram should handle West Philly in this semi-final matchup, but they shouldn't look ahead to their potential 4A championship opponent, the Imhotep Panthers. After beating Archbishop Ryan, 22-21, in the season opener, the Braves haven't faced good competition in their Public League schedule considering they are in the second best division in the Pub, the Liberty division.
Bartram has been itching to take on a team like Imhotep all season long and they will likely get their wish in a couple weeks in the Public League 4A championship. But the Braves need to first take care of business against Speedboys on Friday night under the lights in West Philadelphia.
