On Wednesday, the male Lions of New-Hope Solebury defeated the visiting Philadelphia Academy Charter boys’ soccer team 6-0 in what started off as a slow match in the PIAA District 1 / District 12 2A Regional Semi-Finals.
For the first ten minutes of the match, no one team made their presence known. The game appeared to be stale and dragged along. That was until Deven Smith scored on a pass from Jake Jacquemot to give NHS the lead at the 21:27 mark in the first. This opened the door for New Hope to show their dominance.
Two more goals followed in the first. At the 10:03 minute mark, Nathan Bawduniak put away a goal with an assist from Jake Jacquemot. And then at the 54.6 second mark, Dante DeMeo scored again with an assist from Caleb Herring.
PACHS went into the half down three. The only thought that should have been going through their head should have been, “let’s rally and come back!” And so, they tried, but the Lions were not going to step off the gas pedal.
The second half hosted three more goals, but all of them were by NHS. Deven Smith initiated the scoring in the second half with an assist from Nathan Bawduniak at the 22:20 minute mark. Nathan again assisted at the 12:48 minute mark, giving the ball to Jacob Zimmerman who put it away and made the score 5-0. Just two minutes later, Jacob scored again with help from Dante DeMeo.
With this win, the Lions from New Hope-Solebury secured their trip to the finals this weekend on November 4. They will be playing against Lansdale Catholic from District 12 at Central Bucks West HS at 2 p.m. for their shot to make it to the 2A state championship. Lansdale Catholic defeated Lower Moreland on Wednesday 1-0.
