SHARON HILL, PA -
The Academy Park Knights returned the game's opening kickoff 86 yards and never trailed in their 39-12 victory over Chichester on Friday night. The Knights' Dwayne Leslie was the kick returner on the touchdown, and only three minutes later, he later was the recipient of a 33-yard touchdown pass from AP quarterback Skylor Fillis to take a quick 13-0 lead.
Chichester did finally respond midway through the second quarter as Eagle wide receiver Damian Thompson turned a short slant route into a 32-yard touchdown, making the game 13-6.
But that's as close as Chichester would get to the Knights, as AP running back Nathaniel Holmes scampered 63 yards, untouched, for a Knights touchdown to push the lead back to 13 points and make the score 19-6.
Right before halftime, Academy Park head coach Jason Vosheski decides to go for it on 4th-and-goal and it pays off with a 5-yard rushing touchdown by Jermal Martin. That gave the Knights a 27-6 lead heading into the intermission.
After an Academy Park 26-yard passing touchdown from Fillis to Tahriq Marrero to start the scoring in the third quarter, Chichester got another score on the board with a 7-yard touchdown run by Nate Resine, making it a 33-12 game. But Chichester lost any chance of gaining momentum only two minutes later when Academy Park returned another kick for a score, this time from 61 yards away by Holmes - thus sealing the win for the Knights.
Academy Park now advances to the District 1 5A quarterfinals where they will host the 5-seeded Upper Dublin Cardinals. Unlike the Knights, the Cardinals struggled in their first round game, defeating the 12-seed Radnor, 27-21, after the score was tied 14-14 at the half.
