PHILADELPHIA, PA -
The Neumann-Goretti Saints continued to march on with their undefeated season, as they dominated the Strawberry Mansion Knights, 54-6, on Saturday evening in South Philadelphia. This was the semi-final in the District 1/12 2A sub-regional bracket, and Neumann-Goretti (9-0) will now advance to the championship for the right to go on to the PIAA state playoffs.
The Saints offense didn't have to do a ton of work as the defense shut down Mansion all night long. Defensive back Tysheem Johnson had four interceptions in the game and Mansion didn't get on the scoreboard until midway through the fourth quarter.
Neumann-Goretti had seven touchdowns on the night with seven different Saints crossing the goal line - Jaron Macon, Leddie Brown, Chris Wells, Tre'Sean Bouie, Qaadir Monroe, Kharon Lloyd, and Dymir Cave. Quarterback Charles Britt tossed two of those touchdown passes - the rest came on the ground.
The Saints now will face their Catholic League rivals, West Catholic, who easily handled Bristol, 50-6, in their subregional, in the District 1/12 2A championship game. During the regular season, the Saints beat the Burrs, 20-6, and they'll need a similar effort on the defensive side of the ball to stop the high powered West Catholic offense again.
The game will be played Saturday night at 6 p.m. down the South Philadelphia supersite.
