Wheatley leads Archbishop Wood past Manheim Central, 5-1
PHILADELPHIA, PA -
Archbishop Wood forward Zach Wheatley had a hat trick in the first, allowing the Vikings to race in front of Manheim Central, and hold on for the victory in the PIAA 3A Boys Soccer first round.
It was a rainy night at Northeast High School in Philadelphia and it took a while for both teams to get going. But Wheatley scored off his own rebound with under 16 minutes remaining in the first half to start the scoring and then followed that up with a goal with under 5 minutes to play and then again with just under 5 seconds remaining.
Manheim Central could never recover and Wheatley even added an assist on the Vikings' fourth goal of the game, scored by Cody Taylor.
Archbishop Wood will now face District 1 champion Bishop Shanahan in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Shanahan won in their first round game by a score of 3-2, defeating Greencastle-Antrim out of District 3.
