Imhotep shows Bartram who is king of the Public League in 33-0 Pub 4A Title game
PHILADELPHIA, PA -
This was the matchup the Bartram Braves wanted all year long - another shot at the mighty Imhotep Panthers for the Philadelphia Public League 4A championship. The Braves were undefeated heading into this game and Imhotep's lone loss was to state powerhouse Harrisburg in the first game of the year.
After the game was scoreless through the first 20 minutes of game play, the Imhotep Panthers scored with three minutes left in the first half and never allowed Bartram to get their offense going in a 33-0 win for Imhotep.
It was Imhotep's Tykee Smith who scored on a 9-yard rushing touchdown to get the Panthers offense going and gave Imhotep a 7-0 lead at intermission.
To start the third quarter, Bartram tried an onside kick that didn't work, but less than a minute later Imhotep fumbled and the Braves recovered. But the Panthers defense held strong and didn't let Bartram capitalize on the offense's turnover.
Later in the third with the score now 14-0, Bartram quarterback Mahmud Dioubate was trying to get away from the Panther pass rush and ended up fumbling the ball trying to throw it away. On the next play, Imhotep star two-way player Isheem Young scored on a 47-yard run to make it 20-0.
On the next Braves possession, Dioubate was picked off by Smith, who also plays both ways for Imhotep, and then Yusuf Terry grabbed a 4-yard fade pass from quarterback Jalen Sutton-Christian to put the game away.
Then with 6:48 remaining in the game, Bartram and Imhotep players were getting a little bit aggressive and chippy - too much in the referees’ opinion. Therefore, the officials called the game at that point, giving Imhotep the 33-0 victory.
While Bartram's great season is now over, Imhotep will take on Cardinal O'Hara on Friday night for the District 12 4A championship.
